HELIODYNE - THE BEAT ON SOLAR HEAT NEWSLETTER VOLUME ONE June 2011 Welcome to the June issue of The Beat. Your monthly e-newsletter for all the latest info from America's leading Solar Hot Water manufacturer, Heliodyne. In this issue, we look at new approvals and certifications on Heliodyne controllers and collectors, as well as a product introduction for mounting collectors using strut channeling. HELIODYNE CONTROLLERS NOW APPROVED FOR CSI METERING PROGRAM Heliodyne's Delta-T line of solar hot water differential controllers are now approved for use in the CSI thermal Customer Performance Metering (CPM) program. The approved controllers include the Delta-T Pro Ethernet, Pro Wi-Fi and Pro Lite. Heliodyne is one of only a select few brands that have met the strict standards on performance monitoring accuracy specified by CSI. (A list of approved metering equipment can be found here https://www.csithermal.com/meters/). The CPM program is intended for projects that are 30-250 kWth in size (roughly the equivalent of a 12 to 100 collector system). Heliodyne Delta-T controllers are available on all Heliodyne heat-transfer appliances, i.e. the Helio-Flo, Helio-Pas, and Helio-Pak, as well as all models of the HCOM commercial solar station. The controllers are also available as stand-alone units from authorized Heliodyne distributors, or online at http://www.deltatcontrols.com. NEW SRCC CERTIFICATION FOR HELIODYNE GOBI BLACK PAINT COLLECTORS Recently the GOBI flat plate collector was completely redesigned, which required all new testing and certification. Testing on the more common Blue Sputter design was completed and certified this past March. Heliodyne is proud to announce that testing and re-certification has also now been completed on the Black Paint GOBI. Similar to the results of the Blue Sputter GOBIs, the Black Paint versions have come back with better performance numbers than the previous model. This is due to the all-new collector design, which not only significantly improved its performance, but also reduced the thickness of the collector by over 1 inch making it the slimmest collector in the U.S. today. New SRCC certification information on all of the GOBI collectors can be found by clicking here http://securedb.fsec.ucf.edu/srcc/collector_search?action=search&msrcc_id=&mstatus=A&moptic_type=0&mstart_date=&mend_date=&results_per_page=400&submit=Summary. Black Paint GOBIs offer the system owner a more economical choice of collector, and are well suited for areas with high solar radiation. They are available in 3 sizes and are suitable for residential or commercial use. STRUT CHANNEL MOUNTING HARDWARE NOW AVAILABLE For installers who prefer to use strut channeling such as the Unistrut brand for collector mounting, Heliodyne now offers a hardware kit for use with GOBI brand collectors. The hardware has been designed to maintain structural integrity under extreme loads, much like Heliodyne's proprietary hardware solutions. The strut channel kits will be available in both flush-mount (pitched roofs) and rack-mount (flat roofs) configurations. Contact your Heliodyne rep or distributor for ordering information. HELIODYNE LAUNCHES WEBINAR TRAINING SERIES FOR SPECIFIERS Heliodyne will soon be offering a webinar training series dedicated to engineering firms, to assist with educating them on solar thermal technology. Examples of topics include: Pre-engineered plug & play systems, system design, and utilizing system-sizing software for accurate energy savings predictions. The webinar series will be offered free of charge to any interested specifiers who wish to learn more about solar thermal. Those that are interested may email us at tony@heliodyne.com for a schedule of upcoming webinar dates. NORTHERN CALIFORNIA CATTLE RANCH INSTALLS HELIODYNE SYSTEM Solarix Systems based out of San Francisco recently completed a 10-collector system at Prather Ranch, located on the California/Oregon border. The ranch primarily raises cattle and distributes meat throughout the country. Prather Ranch emphasizes green business practices. The Heliodyne solar system is the latest addition to this philosophy. The solar thermal system is used to heat the ranch's water supply for use in the meat processing facility. Solarix installed a Delta-T Pro controller as part of the system, which will allow remote system monitoring. Remote monitoring is especially convenient when the project is located at a great distance from the installer or is in a rural, remote area. SPECIAL FREE TRAINING SESSION Heliodyne will be offering a free training class at Intersolar North America in San Francisco. The class will take place on July 14. This short, abbreviated course will cover solar thermal system basics including installation, design, sizing, code compliance and more. To secure a seat, it is highly recommended that you pre-register for the session. Email: training@heliodyne.com for more information and to enroll. To enroll in Heliodyne's regular 2-day training classes (held at the Heliodyne training center), visit the calendar at http://www.heliodyne.com/calendar.php.
